During the Christmas season, almost all of the world celebrates the coming of Christ, including those who don’t believe in Him.
Jesus Christ is the polarizing figure in history, but despite this, His birth is the single most celebrated event. And it is fitting that the Savior of the world be so honored.
Even though our courts have decided that prayer in schools and any reference to Christianity is unconstitutional, every year our kids get to take a little time away each winter. Try and relabel it winter break if you like, but our kids know it’s time for Christmas.
Every person in America and most people around the world know that December 25th is no ordinary day.
Christmas in many ways has become a secular event, as has Easter and Thanksgiving. And many in the religious world think this is a bad thing. But I believe it goes to show just how much of an impact Christianity has made.
Even atheists take part in the joy of the season, despite their own beliefs.
Some are still intent on trying to "X" Christ from Christmas (X-mas), but even in this attempt they are unwittingly using the Greek symbol which stands for Christ. Removing Jesus from the holiday is proving to be nearly impossible.
The "Good News" of Christ’s birth is far reaching, and that should not be a surprise. It’s not every day that the God of Heaven decides to give up His power and authority to become human – John 1:14 "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory of the only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." – New King James version.
The Christmas story set Christianity apart from other religions by the extreme measures that God takes to reach out to His creation. This event shows just how much God wants to be in relationship with us. Matthew 1:23 "Behold a virgin shall be with child and bear a son and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which is translated, God with us" – New King James version.
The idea of a cruel and vindictive God that is common in popular culture is far removed from the actual God of the Bible. This very announcement of the birth of Jesus was one of peace on earth, good will toward men! Luke 2:10 "Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born today in the city of David a Savior, Who is Christ the Lord.’" New King James version
Many think the Christmas story is nothing more than a fairy tale or a fable, and that is their choice. You won’t be murdered for rejecting Christ, a holy war won’t be declared on you when you don’t convert to Christianity. Jesus wants us to come to Him willingly, just as He came to us.
This Christmas, as you rush around, overspend and overeat, take the time to count your blessings and consider from where all the blessings come.
Whether you are a Christian or not, I hope that you have a wonderful Christmas – full of laughter and joy. And, please remember, wise men and women still seek Him.
