God's Unchanging Hand

If I never see the harvest of my labor,
If the ground I stand upon is shifting sand,
If I only feel the least of all His favor,
I will still hold onto God's unchanging hand.

If the path I walk be filled with grief or sorrow,
If my pain and suffering I don't understand,
If I do not know what waits for me tomorrow,
I will still hold onto God's unchanging hand.

If I never know the wealth of earthly treasure,
If I'm just a poor, lone, pilgrim in this land,
If I never taste of this world's joy or pleasure,
I will still hold onto God's unchanging hand.

If my friends and those I love would all forsake me,
If they will not pay the price that love demands,
If they turn their back and leave me sad and lonely,
I will still hold onto God's unchanging hand.

By His leading hand I'll know His strength and power,
He will guide me safely through to heaven's strand,
His hand will lead me through life's latest hour,
If I still hold onto God's unchanging hand.

And in that far off land so sweet and vernal*,
Hand in hand we'll walk the streets of purest gold,
And the fellowship we share will be eternal,
In that land where none of us will e'er grow old.
* Springlike, fresh, youthful.
