"I'll Not Go Gracefully"

My last birthday laughed at me
I said "You're such a kidder"
Does this mean the me I've always been
Is going to the lowest bidder?

Because I'm now a number
Do I just give up being me?
Put all my joys and toys away
Assume serenit.e.e.e.e.e?

No more dancing to my favorite beat?
Or singing when I please?
How about the silly stuff straining to be free?
Giggling so much, it brings me to my knees?

No, this year I'll not be older.
I'm going backward, not ahead.
So the older I become
The younger I'll be dead!
