Familiar Doors

A journey felt in heartbeats
Treasures every mile
Time marked by changing landscape
Tugging memories on file.

Excitement always building
Feet tapping on the floor.
Anticipating sounds of love
Behind familiar doors.

Tables piled with turkey
Ham and apple pie
A prayer of true Thanksgiving
Tears brimming in my eyes.

And I remember times gone by
Special memories retained
The faces that are missing
But spirits remain.

We gather in November
Tradition, home and kin
To see and touch and hear and smell
It feels like "plugging in."

That loving line of power
Is what I'm thankful for
Reaching out to welcome me
Behind familiar doors.
